Testing for Coeliac

There are many tests available for screening individuals suspecting they have coeliac disease.  However, the 3 in 1 coeliac disease test from Biohit is the only laboratory-based test available from pharmacies based upon the guidelines set out by the British Society for Gastroenterology.

We believe this is the most accurate test available for patients who wish to undertake a screening test.

The 3 in 1 coeliac disease test involves a small painless finger-prick to measure 3 antibodies that are found in the blood of coeliac disease patients.  The three antibodies - tTG IgA, tTG IgG and tTG IgM are highly specific for the disease.

If the test determines these antibodies to be over a certain level in the blood then it is highly likely that you suffer from coeliac disease and you should consult your GP about organising a confirmatory test.  Your GP may organise a secondary blood test and/or refer you to a specialist where a biopsy sample will be taken and examined to confirm the disease.

Care: Some 'home-tests' that are available only measure IgA antibodies which can give false negative results. This will occur if you are IgA deficient – a condition that affects about 8% of coeliac disease sufferers. If you have taken one of these tests you may still benefit from taking the 3 in 1 coeliac disease test.
